Privacy Notice
This notice is given under article 10 of Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 ("KVKK"). It explains why, on what legal grounds and how we process your personal data when you join the early-access and announcements list on bookmarksociety.co and when you visit the site. The Turkish version prevails in case of any difference.
1. Data controller

2. Data we process
- Contact data: your email address.
- Transaction security data: date and time of signup and consent, the IP address used at signup, consent and unsubscribe records.
- Marketing data: whether our emails were opened and their links clicked (our email provider's standard measurements).
- Site usage data (only if you accept cookies): pages visited, visit length, browser and device type, approximate location (city/country), a cookie ID and, if you allow ad personalisation in your Google account, aggregate age, gender and interest data Google derives from it.
We do not ask for or process special categories of data (health, religion, political opinion, etc.).
3. Purposes
- to send your early-access invitation when the Bookmark app opens;
- to send announcements, newsletters and event information about Bookmark and Bookmark Society gatherings;
- to keep a record of your consent and its withdrawal and meet our legal burden of proof;
- to prevent abuse of the list (fake and automated signups) and keep data secure;
- if you agree, to understand how the site is used and the general profile of our visitors through aggregate statistics, and improve the site and our announcements.
4. Legal grounds and collection
We collect your data electronically and directly from you through the signup form. Sending announcements and newsletters relies on the explicit consent you give under the separate Consent Statement (KVKK art. 5/1) and on your consent to commercial electronic messages under Law No. 6563. Keeping consent and unsubscribe records relies on our legal obligations (art. 5/2-ç); security and anti-abuse processing relies on our legitimate interest, provided it does not harm your fundamental rights (art. 5/2-f). Analytics cookies rely only on the explicit consent you give by choosing "Accept" in the site's cookie notice (art. 5/1); if you don't, no cookies are written.
5. Transfers
In Turkey: only to public authorities legally entitled to request it, and only as far as requested (art. 8). We do not sell or rent your data or share it with anyone for advertising.
Abroad: our list is held on Mailchimp (The Rocket Science Group LLC / Intuit Inc., USA), our data processor; if you accept cookies, site usage data is processed by Google LLC (USA) and Google Ireland Limited (Ireland) for Google Analytics; the site is served through Cloudflare, Inc. (USA), which technically processes your IP address when you visit. Your data is therefore transferred abroad. These transfers are made under KVKK art. 9 and the Regulation on the Procedures and Principles for the Transfer of Personal Data Abroad, relying on one of the appropriate safeguards set out in art. 9, primarily the standard contracts published by the Personal Data Protection Board.
6. Retention
Until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent. You are removed from the sending list immediately; records of consent and unsubscription are kept only as proof for the period required by law, then deleted, destroyed or anonymised.
7. Security
Only the people who run the list can access it; our accounts use two-step verification and all connections are encrypted (HTTPS).
8. Cookies
We use Google Analytics. If you accept, analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*; kept for up to 2 years) are written and Google signals are enabled: if you allow ad personalisation in your Google account, Google links your visit to your account and gives us only aggregate age, gender and interest reports; nothing that identifies you reaches us. If you decline, no cookies are written; Google receives only cookieless measurement signals without identifiers (Google Consent Mode). Analytics data is kept in Google Analytics for 14 months. Your choice is remembered by a record kept only in your browser; change it at any time from "Cookie settings" at the bottom of the page. Withdrawing consent deletes the analytics cookies.
9. Your rights (KVKK art. 11)
You may ask whether your data is processed and request information about it; learn the purpose and whether it is used accordingly; know the third parties in Turkey or abroad it was transferred to; ask for correction, or deletion or destruction under art. 7, and for these to be notified to recipients; object to an adverse result arising solely from automated analysis; and claim compensation for damage caused by unlawful processing.
10. How to apply
Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. For other requests, write to the address above or to hello@bookmarksociety.co. We reply free of charge within 30 days at the latest. If your request is refused, the reply is insufficient or not given in time, you may complain to the Personal Data Protection Board (art. 14).
11. Changes
When we update this notice we publish the new version here with its date.
